strange daughters’ April events!

There are so many incredible performance events here in Asheville this month!

Coming up this weekend, 4/7-4/10, the 10th Asheville Butoh Festival presents special guest Yumiko Yoshioka, strange daughters butoh and local favorites such as Legacy Butoh, Anemone Dance Theater, Julia Taylor, Constance Humphries & musicians Elisa Faires and Meghan Mulhearn. The festival hosts strange daughters on Sunday, April 10 at the BeBe Theatre at 7:30pm. This solo performance explores and deconstructs female symbol and archetype while celebrating both vulnerability and strength with a touch of dark humor. Please call the BeBe at 828.254.2621 for reservations. The Asheville Butoh Festival is produced by Julie Gillum and Asheville Contemporary Dance Theatre. Please visit http://www.ashevillebutoh.com for the festival schedule of events.

Another exciting event is that {Re}HAPPENING has been replaced by INTERLUDE. Interlude, co-produced by the Media Arts Project and Black Mountain College Museum + Arts Center is a series of multidisciplinary art events to be held in and around BMCM+AC’s galleries in downtown Asheville throughout the month of April. I will be premiering a new solo at the closing street party on Walnut Street, 4/29 beginning at 6pm. Please visit http://www.interludeavl.com for the entire month’s calendar as there are many wonderful happenings!

The last weekend of April, 4/29-5/1, Asheville Contemporary Dance Theatre presents “Motown Memories,” choreographed by Sharon Cooper. This evening of modern dance celebrates Sharon’s memories of Motown music and its effect on her life, and yours truly will be a guest artist, performing a solo Sharon created. Please visit http://www.act.org for more info!
