strange daughters butoh at The Asheville Fringe Arts Festival 2015
Well, it has taken me a moment to post about my solo show that was back in January, but for some reason it seems appropriate for a Blue Moon blog during my “103 Days of Butoh” challenge!
My first full length evening show, strange daughters, was January 22 and 24 at The Mothlight as part of the Asheville Fringe Arts Festival. For me it was really the announcement of my own little Butoh company, which was one reason I titled the show with the same name, but it also refers to the characters, my “daughters,” that have emerged during my 15 years of Butoh practice and performance. The show was an amazing performing and learning experience and I plan to refine it, add some dances and present it again next year. New “daughters” are emerging and I am excited to see how they develop! In the meantime, please enjoy these performance photos by Misha Schmiedeke.
Strange daughters was funded by a Regional Arts Project Grant, sponsored by the Toe River Arts Council, Madison Arts Council, Asheville Area Art Council, Buncombe County, including funding from the Avery Arts Council and support by the NC Arts Council, a state agency.
